Sterilization and Infection Prevention
An autoclave (sterilizer) is a device that sterilizes the jewelry and equipment necessary for performing piercings by eliminating germs and spores. No reputable studio should operate without this vital piece of equipment! Here at Amory, we use a rapid-cycle autoclave called the Statim 2000. We provide our clients with proof of proper sterilization using a class 5 integrator for every sterilization cycle. Each strip has a white line situated between a red “fail” and green “pass” section, and once the sterilizer reaches the appropriate temperature and pressure, that line will turn grey. If that grey line exits the red “fail” section and enters the green “pass” section, all the jewelry and equipment used to perform your piercings will have been properly sterilized.
ISO Compliant Biological Indicators
Spore tests, which serve as biological indicators, confirm that an autoclave is functioning properly. We conduct these biological spore tests weekly for our Statim 2000 autoclaves. These tests evaluate the autoclave’s effectiveness in eliminating even the most dangerous and resistant germs and organisms, including Hepatitis. Each test is sent to Mesa Labs, a third-party laboratory, where they verify that both of our sterilizers are operating correctly. Any reputable piercer will be impressed and not annoyed when customers show enough interest to ask about spore test results!
